Miciah Stasis Harding is a traditional tattoo practitioner, wampum artist, and quill worker from the Herring Pond Wampanoag Tribe of Massachusetts. Harding’s talk explores the history of tattooing among Northeastern Indigenous peoples along with her work revitalizing traditional tattooing practices to engender a deeper understanding of these traditions and as a way to connect her people.

Harding views traditional tattooing as a way of bringing back ceremony, medicine, storytelling, language, and remembering and reconnecting with once threatened community connections and traditions. She shares her journey through archives, historical research, and travels to sister communities and Nations, learning from the knowledge that has been carried forward, centering cultural survival, healing, and kinship.
