Summer Camps
LEAP! (Learn + Play) SUMMER CAMPS 2013
Whether we’re hunting dragons, cooking on the hearth, setting sail or clowning around, Shelburne Museum’s summer camps offer children ages 5-13 the opportunity to engage their creativity and imaginations. Each and every day, campers have the chance to express themselves artistically, explore the museum’s galleries and grounds, and play outside. Our phenomenally fun, hands-on camps emphasize the creative process to give campers new perspectives on American artistic and historical traditions.

Back for summer 2013 by popular demand! Can you imagine what a child’s life was like in early Vermont? Come and live it! Campers travel back in history to the turn of the 19th century to learn about everyday life in early Vermont. Our group will “live” at the Settlers’ House for the week, cooking our midday meals on the hearth, keeping a proper house, and tending to our gardens. We will visit galleries and historic buildings throughout the museum to investigate the art and artifacts of the United States’ early years.
Please note: Campers will eat food that they prepare and cook at the museum. We cook with various grains, eggs, and dairy. Please notify us if your child has allergies or sensitivities and help us arrange a safe way for your child to participate.

Travel back to the turbulent 1860’s, when America was nearing the end of the dramatic Civil War! In this week of improvisation in and around the buildings and grounds of the Shelburne Museum, we’ll develop fictional costumed characters who respond to the challenges of this exciting time in history.
