Elizabeth Berdann: Deep End
May 13 - Oct 28View Gallery
Elizabeth Berdann’s latest series of miniature portraits plumbs the emotional depths of the seas. Painting in watercolors on pre-ban and prehistoric mammoth ivory, Berdann’s work evokes the tradition of scrimshaw.
Her emotionally touching portraits of humans as mythological sea creatures are culled from the legends and folklore of various cultures around the world. Deep End provides psychological insights into these malevolent monsters as physical incarnations of natural forces and bodily dangers.
