LEAP (Learn and Play) Summer Camps

Whether we’re cooking on an open hearth, setting sail on painted seas or exploring the world around us, Shelburne Museum’s summer camps offer experiences for ages 4-12. Engage your creative side, explore nature and create art inspired by the beautiful grounds of Shelburne Museum. Our exciting, fun hands-on days emphasize the creative process and offer new perspectives on Vermont and American artistic traditions.

June 25-29, 2018
The Vermonter’s Way
Ages 9-11

Dive deep into the past to explore what life was like for an early Vermont family. Learn about harvesting flax to prepare linen, dye yarn with natural materials, gain basic knitting skills and cook daily on an open fire. Campers this year will spend an overnight under the stars (weather permitting). Friday, early dismissal.

July 2-6/9-13
Art Adventurers
Ages 4-6

Sessions 1 and 2 are geared for the Museum’s youngest learners. Come explore the grounds, create art, have fun, and make new friends during these week-long camps! Campers may register for one or two week sessions.

July 16-20
Wild Wild West
Ages 7-10

Let’s Ride! Let your imagination run wild, as we travel west to discover cowboys and wagons. Inspired by the special exhibition Playing Cowboy: America’s Wild West Shows, campers will create art, act out imaginary scenes and explore the collections of Shelburne Museum.

July 23-27
Learn to Sew- In the Kitchen
Ages 8-10

New this year! Have you ever wanted to learn to sew? This is the camp for you as we learn the basics of a sewing machine and create useful garments and accessories for the kitchen! Campers will learn to sew on sewing machines as well as explore other fiber arts that are commonly used in creating beautiful and functional handmade items.

July 30- August 3
Learn to Sew- Totes
Ages 11-12

Paper, plastic or fabric? Learn to sew in this tote filled extravaganza! Campers will learn the basics of a sewing machine, how to place a zipper and create useful totes for home and school!

August 14-18
Quilt Camp
Ages 8-12

Creating a quilt can be easier than you think! Your camper will learn how to make quilt blocks, assemble a quilt topper, sandwich and quilt the final piece! In this week long camp, campers will explore the beautiful quilt collection, learn about quilting techniques and create a lap quilt!
