Maria Shell, Mirror Ball (detail), 2017. Cotton, 60 x 60 in. Courtesy of the artist. Photography by Chris Arend.

While Shell started out as a traditional quilter, she soon found herself making abstract pieced art quilts that look surprisingly modern. This special exhibition will feature 13 recent works by American quilter Maria Shell, and will explore the ways that Shell has worked to push the boundaries of the traditional gridded format of the American quilt.
