Adult Programs CoordinatorEducation Description:Shelburne Museum seeks an energetic leader to head the Museum’s efforts to provide adult audiences with opportunities for learning and enjoyment. The adult programs coordinator should be an organized and skilled administrator, with strong interpersonal skills, who can balance management and training needs of a diverse staff, while developing a wide range of learning opportunities for visitors. Key components of the position include:
Qualifications:B.A or B.S. in art, history, American studies, museum studies or related field. Graduate degree preferred, as is experience in the museum field. Supervisory experience required. Exceptional interpersonal and teaching skills required, as well as strong writing and speaking skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite applications and a valid driver’s license required. Demonstrated ability to multi-task and to work as a team member in a fast-paced environment. Occasional weekend and evening hours. Margie and Nate Thorne Education and Collections Management FellowshipEducation and Collections Management Description:Two positions are available beginning June 1, 2009. Education and collections management fellows will serve in two key capacities. When the Museum is open to the public (May – October), fellows will assist in the development and implementation of education programs. Off season, fellows will develop the collections database and have other related cataloging and documentation duties. The applicant will work well with many types of people and work efficiently on independent projects. Qualifications:Applicants should have a studio or art history background and work well with children. B.A. or B.S. is required. CPR/First Aid certification a plus. Compensation and Benefits:Annual stipend of $16,000 plus housing, paid leave, and eligibility to participate in the Museum’s 401(k) plan after 1 year (does not include medical benefits). There will be 6- and 12-month performance reviews. Director of Collections ManagementCollections Management Description:Shelburne Museum seeks a Director of Collections Management. This senior staff position offers a wide range of responsibilities related to the storage, movement, insurance, cleaning and cataloguing of the museum's vast collection of over 150,000 objects. Working with all other department directors, including the Director of Conservation and the Senior Curator, this position reports to the Museum Director. They supervise a staff that includes an Assistant Registrar, three Collections Assistants, a Rights and Reproduction Manager, four seasonal Fellows, occasional interns and a dedicated team of volunteers. There is also the expectation that the Director of Collections Management will be able to develop relationships with donors and board members and work as an advocate for the museum. It is expected that the Director of Collections Management will be a "hands on" team player who has a passion for the collection and museums. Qualifications:This position requires excellent organization and communication skills, an ability to manage a diverse staff, a clear vision for the department and the ability to work on many projects simultaneously often under pressing deadlines and with limited resources. This position requires a demonstrated ability to work with a complex collection, to develop and work with a collections database, arranging incoming and out going loans, monitor complex insurance needs, organize vast storages areas, efficiently and accurately accession and deaccession objects, possess an understanding of museum policies and have the social ability to further develop and implement them. They will develop and monitor budgets. Computer literacy and experience with all aspects of a collections database is required. They should hold an advanced degree in a relevant field and have excellent communication and writing abilities. Experience:Applicants should have at least five years of relevant experience, a track record of managing staff and be detail oriented. Experience working at a museum with a collection of fine art is desirable.
